1,000 Couples Tie the Knot in Tehran Mass Wedding Campaign
WANA (May 18) – An official mass wedding ceremony for 1,000 couples is set to take place across the main squares of the Iranian capital. The event, organized under the banner of the “Jan-Fada Couples” campaign, coincides with the 1st of Dhu al-Hijjah on the Islamic calendar.
This date marks the wedding anniversary of Imam Ali, the first Shia Imam, and Prophet Muhammad’s daughter, Fatima, which is officially recognized as “Marriage Day” in Iran.
Rahim Nad-Ali, the Cultural Deputy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Mohammad Rasulullah Corps of Greater Tehran, announced the initiative to reporters. He stated that the program aims to promote an Islamic lifestyle and facilitate affordable marriages.
While similar events are held annually across the country to mark the occasion, Nad-Ali noted that Tehran is implementing a specialized blueprint this year to synchronize the ceremonies across multiple urban hubs.
Drawing parallels between current societal dynamics and those of the 1980s (the Iran-Iraq War era), the Cultural Deputy explained that the initiative aligns with the broader public “Jan-Fada” campaign that has gained momentum in recent months. He emphasized that the event is designed to visibly demonstrate the continuity of daily life and family formation within society.
Ceremony Details and Implementation
According to details provided by the IRGC Cultural Deputy, the visual design of the event will feature military assets. Jeep vehicles and military hardware adorned with floral arrangements will be utilized to transport the couples, a move intended to link the social event with recent national defense campaigns.
The main event is scheduled to commence at 5:00 PM at Imam Hossein Square, featuring 110 couples. During this segment, the marriage vows for these 110 couples will be recited simultaneously in the presence of the public.
Concurrently, designated spaces and logistical arrangements have been finalized at Tehran’s Enqelab Square to host the marriage ceremonies for another segment of participating couples.
Wedding Caravan to March Toward Azadi Square
Per the official schedule, following the conclusion of the initial ceremonies at Imam Hossein Square, a caravan consisting of vehicles carrying the newlyweds will depart at 8:00 PM toward Azadi Square. Celebrations and nightly gatherings are planned along the transit route and at the designated squares.
Concluding his statement, Nad-Ali reiterated that the 1st of Dhu al-Hijjah serves as the foundational model for love and family honor in Islamic culture. He emphasized that the event is being executed as an organized, disciplined operation across the capital’s squares, projecting that this model will be extended to other provinces across the country in the future.
