WANA (Mar 13) – A total of 16 ships and oil tankers have been targeted in the Strait of Hormuz since the beginning of the ongoing conflict for allegedly violating navigation rules governing the strategic waterway, according to newly released figures.

According to the economic desk of Fars News Agency, the statistics are based on international sources and have also been confirmed by Iranian media reports.

A chart published by The New York Times indicates that of the 16 vessels involved, 10 were oil tankers, three were container ships, and three were bulk carriers.

A spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters previously stated that the ships were targeted after violating wartime transit regulations in the Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had warned that military and commercial vessels belonging to the United States, Israel, European countries, and their allies would not be permitted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and could be struck if detected in the area.
