WANA (Dec 25) – Iranian border guards have saved the lives of more than 1,600 Afghan nationals who were at imminent risk of death due to extreme cold and frostbite, the police spokesperson confirmed.

General Montazer-al-Mahdi, spokesperson for the Iranian Police (FARAJA), stated that the rescue operation took place during last week’s heavy snowfall and freezing conditions.

The individuals were intercepted by the Taybad Border Regiment while attempting to enter the country through unauthorized border crossings.

Emergency Relief Operation

According to the spokesperson, border units deployed all available heating resources and emergency transport to move the group to safe shelters.

These measures prevented what officials described as “certain death” from hypothermia for the 1,600 individuals. Following a rise in temperatures and the stabilization of weather conditions, the nationals were returned to their country of origin.

Official Warnings and Recommendations

The FARAJA Border Guard Command noted that it had previously issued warnings to Afghan border officials regarding the life-threatening risks associated with illegal crossings, particularly during severe weather.

According to the official Police news website, authorities have once again urged nationals of the neighboring country to use authorized legal channels and official border crossings to enter Iran to ensure their safety and compliance with international regulations.
