2 Million Barrels of Iranian Crude Reach India Following U.S. Waiver
WANA (Apr 10) – TankerTrackers reported on Friday that 2 million barrels of Iranian crude oil have reached India since March 20.
The website did not provide further details but stated that the export of this amount of oil was made possible under U.S. sanctions waivers.
According to this report, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) at the U.S. Department of the Treasury issued a license on March 20, under which transactions necessary for the purchase, delivery, and unloading of crude oil and petroleum products from Iran—loaded on or before March 20—were authorized until April 19.
India announced on Saturday that it has resumed the purchase of oil from Iran. This is the first time since 2019 that India has publicly announced the purchase of Iranian oil. The United States did not renew the exemptions for purchasing Iranian oil in 2019.
