WANA (Jun 17) – Twenty-one Arab and Islamic countries have strongly condemned Israel’s recent attacks on Iran in a joint statement. The declaration was issued at Egypt’s initiative, following consultations led by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty with his counterparts in various countries.

The statement, released Monday by the foreign ministries of the signatory states, rejected “Israel’s aggression on the Islamic Republic of Iran on the morning of June 13, 2025,” and condemned all actions that violate international law and the principles of the UN Charter. The countries called for respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity, adherence to good neighborly relations, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.

According to Egypt’s official news agency (MENA), the statement reflects the consensus of Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Pakistan, Bahrain, Brunei, Turkey, Chad, Gambia, Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Libya, and Mauritania.

The foreign ministers of these countries also expressed “deep concern over the dangerous escalation of tensions in the region,” warning that such actions could have serious consequences for regional security and stability. They called for an immediate end to Israel’s hostile acts against Iran and urged efforts to achieve a full ceasefire and de-escalation.

The statement further emphasized the urgent need to make the region free of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction without exception. It called on all countries in the region to promptly join the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

It also stressed the need to refrain from targeting nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards, to respect freedom of navigation in international waterways, and to immediately return to negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

In conclusion, the foreign ministers rejected military solutions to the region’s ongoing crises and underscored the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and adherence to international law as the only sustainable path to resolving disputes.

Welcoming the Joint Arab-Islamic Statement Condemning Israeli Aggression Against Iran

Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, welcomed the joint statement issued by the foreign ministers of 21 Arab and Islamic countries—an initiative led by the Arab Republic of Egypt—condemning the Israeli regime’s aggression against the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as its blatant violations of international law and the principles and purposes of the UN Charter.

Baghaei expressed appreciation for Egypt’s initiative and the solidarity shown by Arab and Islamic countries, stating that the content of the statement reflects a shared understanding among regional states and their deep concern over Israel’s acts of aggression against a fellow regional country. He emphasized that it also demonstrates a collective will to pressure the UN Security Council into fulfilling its duties to stop such acts of aggression.

Referring to the statement’s emphasis on the prohibition of attacks on nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards in accordance with relevant IAEA and Security Council resolutions, Baghaei described Israel’s military attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities as a grave breach of international legal norms. He reiterated Iran’s and the region’s continued demand for a strong and clear condemnation by the IAEA Board of Governors and its Director General in response to such actions.

The spokesperson further highlighted that both the Islamic Republic of Iran and Egypt are key initiators of the proposal to establish a nuclear- and WMD-free Middle East. He stressed the importance of pursuing the joint statement’s call for global action to realize this initiative, pointing out that the only obstacle to its fulfillment remains Israel’s possession of weapons of mass destruction.
