$250,000 Price Gap for Toyota Prado From Japan to Iran
WANA (Dec 21) – A review of pricing for the 2024 Toyota Prado shows that the vehicle, which sells for around $52,000 in global markets, is offered in Iran at a price equivalent to nearly $300,000.
According to market listings, the Japanese-made SUV—officially produced by Toyota and sold internationally at factory-standard prices—is being advertised in Iran for up to 36 billion rials.
At an exchange rate of 120,000 rials to the dollar, this amounts to roughly $300,000, nearly 5.7 times its global price and reflecting a price gap of about $250,000.
Automotive market experts say the sharp disparity stems from a combination of import restrictions, lack of competition, opaque pricing mechanisms, and high profit margins for importers.
These conditions have turned imported vehicles from consumer goods into speculative assets, forcing end buyers to pay several times the global price for a standard vehicle.
