US Supports Israeli Aggression; European Stances Are One-Sided
WANA (Jun 15) – Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, strongly condemned the positions of three European countries and the United States regarding the Israeli regime’s recent aggression, calling their stance “very one-sided” and expressing deep regret over the lack of international condemnation.
Speaking to reporters, Araghchi said, “It is completely clear and very regrettable that the US explicitly supports this aggression. Based on the evidence we have, admissions by the aggressors themselves, and the positions taken by the three European countries, their stance is highly one-sided in favor of the Israeli regime.”
He criticized the European countries for failing to condemn Israeli clear violation of international law, particularly Israel’s attack on nuclear facilities. “It is astonishing that in such an obvious aggression and attack on nuclear installations — condemned by international law from every aspect — these European countries, who claim to uphold international issues, have instead used unacceptable wording rather than condemning the aggressor.”
Israeli Regime Violates All Red Lines
Araghchi emphasized that Israel has crossed all red lines and violated international laws and rights in Gaza, with Western countries supporting these violations. “This is a historic mistake. Encouraging the aggressor will have serious consequences for the international community, not limited to Iran alone,” he warned.
“The death in Gaza is not only the death of Palestinians but the death of humanitarian rights, laws, and international norms,” he said. “Because those who violate these laws go unpunished while others remain silent or supportive.”
Iran’s Commitment to Nuclear Rights and Diplomacy
Addressing the timing of Israel’s attack during Iran’s diplomatic efforts, Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to diplomacy and its nuclear rights. “The Islamic Republic of Iran has never abandoned diplomacy. We are a country committed to peaceful dispute resolution based on our principles and beliefs.”
Regarding Iran’s nuclear program, he said, “We have repeatedly stated that we will never give up the nuclear rights of our people. If anyone has doubts or questions, we are ready to clarify and take actions that build confidence in our nuclear program. This has been the focus of recent negotiations.”
He added, “If the aggression stops, naturally, the path to diplomacy will be reopened.”
No Hesitation in Taking Action
Araghchi confirmed that Iran has sent two letters — to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the United Nations — and outlined plans to defend its rights vigorously.
“We will not hold back from any action. I wrote to the UN Secretary-General, spoke with him by phone, and requested a special Security Council meeting, which was held. The countries’ positions were generally positive, but unfortunately, a resolution condemning the Israeli regime was not adopted due to U.S. interference.”
He also wrote to the IAEA Director-General requesting an extraordinary Board of Governors meeting to issue at least a statement condemning the attack, stressing the importance of an international response to discourage such aggression.
Araghchi further noted letters and requests for extraordinary sessions with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, where a regular session will take place soon, and conversations with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which resulted in condemnation of Israel’s actions.
Over the past two days, Araghchi said he spoke with over 20 foreign ministers, and the Iranian president communicated with heads of state, reflecting widespread regional and international condemnation. However, he lamented that some European and American countries continue to support the aggressor and block international responses.
He stated, “We rely only on our armed forces for our security. They act decisively, and we strive to turn their courageous actions on the ground into peaceful diplomatic progress.”
Iran’s Position on Israel and Palestine
Araghchi reiterated Iran’s opposition to Israel’s existence, labeling the regime as illegitimate and founded on land theft. He emphasized Iran’s clear policy toward resolving the Palestinian issue, “which does not include militarism,” and proposed a referendum in Palestine involving the land’s original inhabitants.
“We have never sought war as a course of action, though we respond to aggression and support the Palestinian people’s rights,” he said.
Nuclear Ambitions and Regional Solidarity
Araghchi stated Iran does not seek nuclear weapons and has been negotiating for nearly 20 years. “There are other motives at play; they want to prevent our scientific advancement. They will not achieve their goals.”
He also highlighted positive regional responses condemning Israel’s aggression against Iran, mentioning Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister was the first to call, followed by Egypt and others. “The region fully supports Iran and condemns this aggression.”
Call for Regional Cooperation to Prevent War Escalation
Araghchi said Iran maintains constant contact and good relations with regional countries, communicating daily. “The fire of this war ignited by Israel risks spiraling out of control. Israel itself is trying to provoke this. Fortunately, regional countries are alert. We hope that through regional cooperation, we can prevent further arson and the spread of war.”
