90% of Sanctions on Iran’s Maritime Logistics Neutralized
WANA (Jan 28) – The Secretary General of the Iranian Association of Shipping Companies and Related Services said that effective management has rendered the majority of sanctions-related threats against Iran’s maritime transport sector ineffective.
Masoud Polmeh, Secretary General of the association, said in an interview on the latest situation of Iran’s maritime transportation that, following the reimposition of United Nations sanctions under the so-called “snapback” mechanism and the media pressure aimed at introducing new threats against the country’s shipping industry, no developments have occurred that would jeopardise ongoing operations.
He added that no escalation of sanctions has taken place, and that the conditions previously associated with the “snapback” mechanism remain unchanged.
Polmeh emphasised that, thanks to competent management in the maritime logistics sector, Iranian professionals have succeeded in neutralising more than 90 percent of sanctions-related threats.
“I do not use the term ‘circumventing sanctions,’” he said. “Rather, I believe we have managed to render more than 90 percent of these threats ineffective.”
The Secretary General of the Association of Shipping Companies noted that many of these threats exist largely on paper, although increased costs and longer operational timelines have made conditions more challenging for the sector.
