WANA (Jul 08) – The U.S. military early Wednesday carried out a series of strikes against targets in southern Iran. Washington said the operation was launched in response to what it described as Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and accused Tehran of violating the ceasefire.

 

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), in response, launched a joint missile and drone operation targeting 85 critical US military facilities and shot down an MQ-9 Reaper drone.

 

The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters also issued a stern statement warning that Iran’s armed forces will deliver a decisive response to recent US airstrikes, asserting that Tehran will never tolerate foreign interference in the management of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

The U.S. government is highly frustrated by its inability to open the Strait of Hormuz following the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU).

 

Trump assumed he would be able to completely open the strait after the memorandum of understanding.

 

By insisting on enforcing its own preferred arrangements, particularly the northern route, Iran has disrupted Trump’s plan.

 

Trump had reassured ships regarding transit through the Omani route and feels humiliated by Iran.

 

The U.S. attempted once again to open the Strait of Hormuz through military means but failed.

 

The U.S. attacked approximately 30 targets on the southern coasts and islands but received a response with attacks on 85 targets.

 

For the first time, Iran targeted the U.S. fleet off the coast of Oman.

 

The continuation of clashes in a limited form remains likely, as Iran will not back down from managing the strait.
