A famous Iranian Actor Has Been Arrested on Charges of Rape
WANA (Oct 21) – According to received reports, Pezhman Jamshidi, a former player of Iran’s national football team and a well-known cinema, television, and theater actor, was transferred to prison today on serious charges.
Jamshidi was taken to a detention facility in Iran that typically holds suspects accused of murder and sexual assault.
Iran’s Judiciary has yet to release any further details about the case.
Mehdi Keshtdar, CEO of Mizan News Agency — the official news outlet of Iran’s Judiciary — confirmed the actor’s arrest on his X (Twitter) account, stating:
“A woman recently filed a complaint with the judicial authorities, accusing a cinema actor of rape. Following the private plaintiff’s complaint and subsequent professional and scientific investigations, the well-known actor was summoned, formally charged, and taken into custody.”
The actor accused of rape had previous complaints against him.
A film producer, indirectly confirming the sexual assault of a young woman by the well-known cinema actor, stated that this is not the first but the second time the actor has faced such accusations. The previous case, he said, was settled through the involvement of a lawyer and by bribing the complainant.
The producer, referring to the confirmed arrest of the actor, added: “This actor had previously managed to close a similar case by paying off the complainant and then returned to the film industry.
The producer also noted that “this actor’s career is over — he will never be able to return to the industry again.
