WANA (Oct 06) – The Commander of Iran’s Navy, Admiral Shahram Irani, stated that the Caspian Sea is not an area for external powers to conduct military maneuvers, emphasizing that sufficient strength has already been amassed around the sea.

Speaking during his visit to Russia to attend the Caspian Sea littoral states naval commanders’ summit, Admiral Irani said the five littoral nations have established strong cooperative relations. “This year, we have come to review new developments and implement them in practice,” he added.

Highlighting the shared goal of regional maritime security, the Iranian commander said, “Security in the Caspian Sea can be achieved through the participation of littoral countries while ensuring a dynamic regional economy.”

Admiral Irani reiterated, “The Caspian Sea is not an environment to allow maneuvering by outsiders. Enough power has already gathered around the Caspian, and the specific issues outlined at this meeting will proceed effectively. The key message of this summit is that the littoral states themselves should be the decision-makers.”

During his trip to Saint Petersburg, Admiral Irani is scheduled to meet with the Commander of the Russian Navy, as well as hold bilateral talks with the naval chiefs of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
