WANA (Feb 12) – The Commander of the Iranian Army Navy has emphasized the country’s deterrence capabilities, stating that Iran’s armed forces continuously monitor enemy movements and that the greatest source of concern for Iran’s adversaries is the unity and resilience of the Iranian people.

Rear Admiral Shahram Irani said in a media interview that ensuring the economic security of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s maritime trade is the Navy’s top priority. He added that Iran’s naval presence in its areas of operation has also contributed to maritime security for other countries, a strategic achievement that, he noted, is often overlooked by the public.

Highlighting the Navy’s growing international role, Admiral Irani said the Iranian Navy has become an influential actor on the global stage. He noted that Iran is now actively engaged in maritime defense diplomacy, regularly participating in international naval exercises and receiving requests from other countries to send Iranian instructors and trainers. “In the past, we went abroad for training; today, others ask us to train them,” he said.

Referring to Iran’s deterrence posture, the Navy commander stressed that enemy activities are monitored day and night. “What they fear most is the Iranian people,” he said, adding that adversaries seek to instill fear and uncertainty within Iranian society, but have failed due to the nation’s steadfastness, self-confidence, and national cohesion.

Admiral Irani cited the strong public turnout in the city of Sanandaj despite harsh weather conditions, including cold and heavy rain, as a clear symbol of unity and solidarity. He described the scene as a genuine expression of social cohesion rather than a staged display, noting that such moments reflect Iran’s soft power more effectively than military hardware alone.

He also pointed to the role of Iran’s youth in advancing the country’s defense capabilities, stating that destroyers, submarines, and advanced naval equipment are now designed and built by young Iranian specialists.

Concluding his remarks, Admiral Irani underlined the close bond between the armed forces and the public. “We take pride in being humble servants of the nation,” he said. “The people are the country’s missile launch platforms, and the more prepared and resilient they are, the more ready we will be.”
