WANA (Aug 19) – Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi commended Iran’s backing during Iraq’s war against ISIS during a meeting with Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Wednesday.

 

According to a statement released by the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office, the two officials reviewed avenues for joint cooperation and discussed ways to consolidate and expand bilateral relations across various fields.

 

During the talks, Al-Zaidi emphasized the depth of Iraqi-Iranian ties, pointing to the historical and geographical bonds shared by the two neighboring nations. He specifically praised Iran’s supportive positions, highlighting Tehran’s assistance to Iraq throughout its military campaign against ISIS.

 

For his part, Ghalibaf expressed satisfaction with his visit to Iraq and extended his gratitude to the Iraqi government for its efforts in hosting and serving Iranian pilgrims during the annual Arbaeen pilgrimage.

 

The Iranian parliament speaker reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to continuously developing bilateral relations and broadening the scope of mutual cooperation to serve the shared interests of both the Iraqi and Iranian peoples.
