Alamolhoda: The Election on Iran’s Leadership Has Been Held
WANA (Mar 08) – Following the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, on February 28, discussions regarding the appointment of a new Supreme Leader emerged across political circles, religious authorities, and the Iranian public.
In recent days, various figures—including senior religious scholars, political leaders, and citizens—have emphasized the need to expedite the announcement of Iran’s new Supreme Leader.
Ayatollah Seyed Ahmad Alamolhoda, representative of Khorasan Razavi in the Assembly of Experts, stated: “All rumors and reports suggesting that the Assembly of Experts has not yet made a decision are entirely false.”
He added that, according to the constitution, no one, including the members of the Assembly of Experts, has the right to change their opinion. Ayatollah Alamolhoda highlighted that the process now depends on the secretary of the Assembly, Ayatollah Hosseini Bushehri, who is responsible for formally communicating the Assembly’s decision to the public.
Ayatollah Seyed Mehdi Mirbagheri Shahroudi, representative of Semnan Province in the Assembly of Experts, reacted to the process via a social media video. He described the responsibility of the Assembly in selecting the new Supreme Leader as critical, affirming that the experts are working diligently.
He stated that a decisive consensus has nearly been reached, but warned that obstacles remain and stressed the need for a careful, thorough process to ensure the decision is indisputable.
Mirbagheri Shahroudi emphasized that while time is of the essence, precision is crucial because the decision carries historical significance. “Every voice must be heard, and the process must be meticulously followed,” he said.
The Assembly of Experts has urged the public to rely on credible sources and avoid spreading rumors.
Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Amin Naghadi, director of the Gilan Seminary, also highlighted the urgency of appointing a new Supreme Leader. He described the role of the leader as vital, “like the head of a body,” emphasizing that a timely introduction of the leader is critical. He warned that partisan delays are unacceptable and that enemies often exploit such delays.
Naghadi added that while all patriotic and religiously committed individuals agree on the need to expedite the process, the country remains in wartime conditions, requiring decisions to be made with caution. He suggested that the Assembly of Experts first communicate with the public through a statement and then conduct formal voting under wartime protocols. This, he said, would bring hope to allies and disappointment to adversaries.
