WANA (Oct 16) – The World Para Powerlifting Championships in Egypt continued on Thursday with the men’s 107 kg category — where Iranian athlete Ali Akbar Gharibshahi delivered a stunning performance to claim the gold medal.

Gharibshahi, the reigning Paralympic champion from Paris 2024, first successfully lifted 252 kilograms, and on his second attempt, broke the world record by clearing 255 kilograms.

Although he did not succeed in lifting 260 kilograms in his third attempt, his 255 kg mark was enough to secure the championship title — a commanding 12 kilograms ahead of the runner-up.

This victory marks Gharibshahi’s third world championship gold medal in his para powerlifting career.
