All Arab Ports in Persian Gulf Halt Operations
WANA (May 11) – The Secretary-General of the Shipping Association of Iran and Related Services has announced a total standstill of operations across all Arab ports located in the Persian Gulf.
Masoud Pol-Meh stated that all ports in the southern Persian Gulf have ceased activities. He provided stark figures on the impact, noting that while an average of 110 vessels carrying crude oil, gas, and petroleum derivatives previously exited the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz daily, that number has now dropped to zero.
Pol-Meh highlighted the collapse of regional hubs, specifically mentioning Jebel Ali Port. He explained that the port, which typically handles over 12 million containers annually as a regional engine for trade, has effectively shut down.
He noted that the paralysis of such a major hub naturally triggers a “contagion of unemployment and closure” across all interconnected ports in the region.
The Secretary-General concluded that as long as ships are unable or unwilling to transit the Strait of Hormuz, all maritime entry and exit for regional countries will remain stopped, leading to a complete disruption of their commercial activities.
