Allegations Against Iran Cannot Distract from U.S. Crimes
WANA (Jun 03) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has rejected recent allegations by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who accused Iran of plotting to assassinate American officials, describing the claims as baseless.
In a post published on X on Wednesday, Baghaei responded to Rubio’s remarks during a congressional hearing, writing: “A thief believes everybody steals,” a Persian proverb suggesting that people often judge others by their own behavior.
He went on to state: “Playing the victim cannot whitewash the brutal war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity that you have committed against the Iranian people.”
Baghaei’s remarks came after Rubio, speaking at a U.S. congressional hearing, claimed that Iran had been involved in efforts to target American officials. The U.S. Secretary of State also alleged that several individuals connected to such plots had been convicted or arrested in the United States and asserted that the alleged targets included senior political figures, among them the U.S. president.
