An Iranian Woman to Lead ICM Midwifery Committee
WANA (Aug 05) – Dr. Farah Babaei, Head of the Midwifery Office at Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education, has been appointed as the new Chair of the Regional Professional Committee (RPC) for the Eastern Mediterranean by the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM).
Dr. Babaei is widely recognized as one of the leading and influential figures in the field of midwifery in Iran, with over 35 years of professional experience.
For the past 17 years, she has led this Office under the Ministry’s Deputy for Treatment and continues to serve in this role. She also serves on the board of directors of the Iranian Scientific Association of Midwifery.
The Eastern Mediterranean RPC is one of the regional bodies of the ICM, tasked with guiding, planning, and coordinating professional midwifery activities across countries in the region.
Dr. Babaei’s appointment to this prominent international position reflects the professional standing and active role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in global midwifery and maternal and neonatal health frameworks.
