WANA (May 04) – Maritime traffic analysts say recent actions by Donald Trump in the Persian Gulf have put the lives of innocent sailors at risk and appear to be driven by publicity goals.

A specialized maritime tracking account has stated that since last night, ship positioning transmitters have been widely switched off—an action that, according to the source, was likely carried out under orders from the U.S. military.

Analysts note that this is not the first time such an approach has been taken. The U.S. Navy reportedly did something similar in 2024 during an operation known as “Prosperity Guardian” in the Red Sea—an effort that, observers say, not only failed to achieve its objectives but also endangered civilian sailors.

In December 2023, Washington launched a naval coalition involving more than 20 countries to counter Yemeni attacks on Israeli-linked vessels in the Red Sea. However, analysts believe the operation ultimately failed to meet its primary goal of restoring security and ensuring the full resumption of commercial shipping.

Meanwhile, a captain aboard one of the oil tankers halted in the Persian Gulf told Bloomberg that the reality on the ground differs from political rhetoric, emphasizing that no tanker dares to violate Iran’s regulations for transit through the region.
