WANA (Sep 16) – Two members of Yemen’s Ansarullah political office have rejected allegations that Yemeni forces targeted Mecca, describing the claims as an attempt by Saudi Arabia to cover up what they characterized as its failures and inability to counter Yemeni attacks.

Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, a member of Ansarullah’s political office, said the Yemeni people and government considered themselves at the forefront of defending Islamic holy sites, including Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem. He argued that it would be illogical for a movement fighting to defend the first Qibla of Muslims to target the second.

Al-Bukhaiti also accused Saudi Arabia of undermining the sanctity of Mecca by demolishing Islamic heritage sites, replacing them with luxury hotels and holding events that he described as inconsistent with the city’s religious significance.

He claimed that the allegations against Yemen stemmed from what he described as Saudi Arabia’s fear and confusion following Yemeni missile and drone attacks, arguing that Riyadh was resorting to what he called false narratives to cover up its failures.

Al-Bukhaiti warned that if Saudi Arabia were to take action against Mecca or Medina and then attempt to blame Yemen in order to justify its failures, Yemen would respond with attacks that he said would be more severe than previous operations.

Meanwhile, Hazam al-Asad, another member of Ansarullah’s political office, said Yemen’s armed forces remained committed to targeting military bases, oil facilities and vital infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.

Al-Asad also said the use of Kaaba symbols on Saudi facilities would not prevent Yemeni military operations, describing such measures as an attempt to influence public opinion.

He said the ultimate objective of Yemen’s attacks was to end what Ansarullah describes as the military “aggression” against Yemen and lift the country’s “comprehensive blockade.” He also reiterated the group’s claim that Yemenis were the true defenders of Islamic holy sites.

The statements come amid heightened rhetoric between Ansarullah and Saudi Arabia, with the Yemeni officials simultaneously rejecting allegations concerning attacks on holy sites and warning of continued strikes against Saudi military and critical infrastructure.
