WANA (Jul 23) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi addressed Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi’s recent visit to Tehran following his prior trip to Washington, stating that the obstacle in relations is not a lack of messaging, but rather what he described as Washington’s “unreasonable, demanding, and hegemonic” stance.

 

Speaking on Thursday, Foreign Minister Araghchi commented on Al-Zaidi’s visit to Tehran: “The Iraqi Prime Minister traveled to Washington, and it is entirely natural for him to convey his perspectives and impressions from that trip to us; this is a routine matter.”

 

Araghchi emphasized that Iran currently faces no shortage of intermediaries regarding the United States. “We have enough countries acting as channels between us,” he stated.

 

“The problem is not the exchange of messages; the problem is their approach,” the top diplomat added, describing the U.S. position as “unreasonable, demanding, and hegemonic,” which he said has met with a decisive response from Tehran.

 

Araghchi noted: “As long as they fail to understand that there is no path other than respecting the Iranian nation and its interests, no forward movement will be possible in this regard.”

 

The Foreign Minister concluded that back-and-forth messaging is unnecessary, stating that “it is simply enough for the Americans to revise their policies.”
