Araghchi: Another Meeting with Kallas Likely
WANA (Sep 13) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said another meeting with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas may take place, but stressed that it depends on Europe’s own decision.
Speaking to Iran’s state broadcaster, Araghchi described his recent talks in Cairo with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi as “very serious.”
He added that negotiations taking place in the aftermath of war are not easy: “In such talks, every moment the images of martyrs pass before your eyes. These are not negotiations for laughter.”
On the prospect of further talks with the EU, Araghchi said: “Another meeting with the EU foreign policy chief is possible, but it depends on Europe making its decision.”
Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, and Kaja Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief, met on the evening of Thursday, September 4, 2025, in Doha.
This was their first bilateral meeting, during which they discussed the latest developments regarding Iran’s nuclear file, particularly in light of what Araghchi described as the irresponsible and unjustified action of the three European states in seeking to reinstate annulled UN Security Council resolutions, as well as Iran’s ongoing engagement with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Araghchi and Kallas had recently spoken by phone. Following the three European countries’ letter to the Security Council initiating the snapback mechanism, Araghchi had also sent a letter to the EU foreign policy chief.
