Araghchi Condemns Drone Attack on Barzani’s Residence
WANA (Mar 28) – Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, sent a message after a terrorist drone attack targeted the residence of Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. In his message, he condemned the terrorist act and wished Barzani good health.
Referring to the long-standing record of Israel and the United States in fomenting unrest and division among countries in the region and neighboring states— including through false flag operations— Iran’s foreign minister emphasized the responsibility of all governments and international institutions to hold Israel and the United States accountable and to punish them for their “brutal aggression” against Iran and for unlawful and terrorist attacks in Iraq.
Earlier, Iraqi media had reported that initial information indicated the residence of Nechirvan Barzani in the city of Duhok had been targeted.
In the same context, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani on Saturday condemned the attack and ordered the formation of a joint security and technical team to investigate the incident and identify those responsible.
According to a statement from the Iraqi Prime Minister’s media office, al-Sudani also held a phone call with Nechirvan Barzani to review the latest security developments in Iraq and the region, as well as ways to strengthen security and stability.
While condemning the “brutal attack” on Barzani’s residence in Duhok, al-Sudani praised Barzani’s positions in support of strengthening Iraq’s national unity and stressed the need to legally pursue those responsible.
Earlier, a security source had said that the city of Duhok had been targeted by explosive drones. One of the drones caused an explosion and fire upon impact, while air defense systems shot down another drone before it reached its target.
