WANA (Nov 14) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has congratulated the government and people of Iraq on the successful and peaceful conduct of the country’s parliamentary elections. In his message, he described the vote as “an important step toward strengthening democracy in Iraq and safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and security,” emphasizing that Tehran remains determined to further deepen its friendly relations with Baghdad in all areas of mutual interest.

 

In related reactions, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei also praised the increased voter turnout and the calm atmosphere of the elections, calling the process “a valuable achievement for Iraq.” He expressed hope that the outcome would help reinforce unity, security, and progress in the neighboring country.

 

Earlier, Ali Akbar Velayati, senior advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader on international affairs, had also extended his congratulations. He described the election as “a great and unprecedented victory” for the patient and resilient people of Iraq. Highlighting Iraq’s 5,000-year civilizational heritage and its influential role in the development of Islamic civilization, Velayati said the transparent and peaceful vote reflected the political maturity of the Iraqi nation and sent “a clear message to the country’s adversaries” that no foreign actor could determine Iraq’s destiny.

 

Taken together, the statements underline Iran’s support for Iraq’s democratic process and highlight the deep historical, cultural, and political ties between the two neighboring nations.
