WANA (Aug 20) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned that Washington’s continued pursuit of failed policies toward Iran will only lead to further setbacks and growing hostility among Iranians.

 

In a post on X, Araghchi responded to new economic threats by U.S. officials against Iran, describing Washington’s threat to launch an “economic operation” as an attempt to divert public attention in the United States from domestic financial problems, including record levels of debt and sharply rising interest rates.

 

Araghchi said that insisting on policies that have already failed would only produce further failures and increase hostility among the Iranian people. He also described U.S. economic policies as a threat to the global economy and the national sovereignty of countries around the world.

 

His remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump announced what he called the “most crushing economic operation in history” against Iran, while also claiming that Iran’s military capabilities had been severely damaged and that the country was on the verge of collapse.

 

Tehran has described such statements as part of Washington’s continued campaign of economic and political pressure against Iran, a policy Iranian officials have repeatedly warned could further affect relations between the two countries and deepen anti-American sentiment among Iranians.
