WANA (Sep 10) – Iran’s foreign minister announced that the new agreement between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is fully aligned with the law passed by the Iranian parliament as well as the decisions of the Supreme National Security Council, stressing that cooperation with the Agency will now take place under a new framework.

Seyed Abbas Araghchi said: “The most important feature of this agreement is that it recognizes the new conditions created after the U.S. attack on our nuclear facilities. It also acknowledges that Iran’s security concerns are legitimate and must be taken into account.”

According to the minister, “No access will be granted to IAEA inspectors under this agreement, except at the Bushehr nuclear power plant, where fuel replacement has already been ongoing under the approval of the Supreme National Security Council.” He added that any future access would depend on Iran’s reports and separate negotiations at a later stage.

Araghchi explained that both the initiation of the talks and the details of the agreement had already been discussed and approved by the Supreme National Security Council. He noted: “This framework is completely in line with the law passed by parliament, ensuring that all cooperation is coordinated through the Supreme National Security Council.”

The minister emphasized that the continuation of the agreement depends on the absence of hostile actions against Iran: “If the mechanism known as the snapback is activated, the implementation of this agreement will certainly be halted.”

Speaking about his trip to Cairo, Araghchi said he held more than three hours of talks with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi and also met with Egypt’s foreign minister and president. “Our relations with Egypt are moving forward, many obstacles have been removed, and there is a good understanding between the two sides,” he said, adding that Cairo’s support gave the agreement additional political weight.

Araghchi concluded: “We hope this agreement will open the way for a diplomatic solution, provided the other side is sincere in its claim of seeking a political resolution. The approach taken at the ongoing IAEA Board of Governors meeting will be decisive in determining the future course.”
