Araghchi, Fidan Discuss Regional Developments
WANA (Mar 26) – The foreign ministers of Iran and Turkey held a phone conversation to discuss the latest regional developments and the consequences of the continued military attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran.
During the call, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, expressed appreciation for the efforts of Turkey and several regional countries to halt what he described as aggression and reduce tensions, while briefing his Turkish counterpart on recent developments.
Referring to Washington’s call for negotiations alongside the continuation of military actions and the deployment of forces and equipment to the region, Araghchi described the approach as a clear contradiction between U.S. rhetoric and conduct. He stressed that Iran did not initiate the conflict and is acting within the framework of defending its sovereignty, national security, and territorial integrity against aggressors.
The Iranian foreign minister also emphasized the need for accountability by regional countries and the international community, calling for condemnation of U.S. and Israeli aggression and crimes, and for those responsible to be held accountable for what he said were clear violations of international law.
For his part, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan pointed to his ongoing consultations with several countries in the region and underscored Ankara’s continued efforts to help end the conflict and prevent further escalation.
