Araghchi: Heading to Muscat to Defend Iran’s Rights
WANA (Jun 12) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi announced that Iran and the United States are set to hold the sixth round of nuclear negotiations in Muscat this coming Sunday. He emphasized that Iran will attend the talks to “defend the rights of the Iranian people, uphold the nation’s principled positions, and protect the nuclear achievements of Iranian scientists.”
Speaking on Thursday, Araghchi provided a report on his two-day trip to Norway, where he participated in the Oslo Forum – a prestigious international gathering focused on global affairs.
He noted that the invitation came from the Norwegian Foreign Minister and included other regional foreign ministers to engage in discussions on Middle East developments.
“One of the panels was dedicated to the future of the Middle East and included high-level participation from the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Egypt, and Qatar,” Araghchi said.
“The composition of this session clearly reflected who the future key players in the region are. The core takeaway was that a different future for the Middle East is impossible without justice for Palestine and the Palestinian people.”
Regarding nuclear diplomacy, Araghchi said that Iran’s nuclear negotiations with the United States were also a major topic at the Oslo Forum and other side meetings. “Our positions were clearly conveyed,” he noted.
On the sidelines of the event, Araghchi held multiple bilateral and multilateral meetings. “I met with the Omani Foreign Minister, where we finalized arrangements for Sunday’s negotiation round. I also had a meeting with the Egyptian Foreign Minister and participated in a trilateral session where we exchanged views on Iran–U.S. talks,” he added.
The Iranian foreign minister also held meetings with the UN special envoy for Syria, the Norwegian Prime Minister, the Norwegian Foreign Minister, and the head of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.
“Overall, it was a very successful trip—both in terms of conveying the views of the Islamic Republic of Iran and in engaging in important regional discussions,” he stated.
Araghchi also highlighted his bilateral meeting with the Saudi Foreign Minister. “This meeting was significant, especially following the conclusion of the Hajj pilgrimage. The arrangements made for Iranian pilgrims were commendable,” he said.
Looking ahead to Sunday’s negotiations, Araghchi acknowledged the complexity introduced by the recent resolution passed by the IAEA Board of Governors. “This certainly adds to the challenges,” he admitted. “Nevertheless, we will be in Muscat to stand firm in defense of our nation’s rights and the achievements of our nuclear scientists.”
He concluded by expressing optimism and faith: “With trust in God and the prayers of the people, we will move forward.”
