WANA (Jan 08) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held separate phone conversations on Sunday evening with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, to discuss the latest regional developments following Iran’s response to what it described as repeated violations of the Lebanon ceasefire by Israel.

 

The discussions took place shortly after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had targeted the Ramat David Airbase with ballistic missiles. According to the IRGC, the strike was carried out in response to what it called large-scale Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, which it said had resulted in civilian casualties and widespread displacement in areas including Tyre, Nabatieh, and the southern suburbs of Beirut.

 

In its statement, the IRGC said Iran’s acceptance of a ceasefire on April 8 had been conditional upon a cessation of hostilities across all fronts. It accused the United States and Israel of failing to uphold their commitments, citing continued military operations in Lebanon as well as repeated incidents involving Iranian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, the Gulf of Oman, and the Indian Ocean.

 

The statement described the missile operation as a warning and said that any further violations would prompt a broader response targeting what it referred to as U.S. and Israeli interests across the region.

 

Earlier, on June 1, Araghchi had stated in a post on X that the ceasefire between Iran and the United States applied to all fronts, including Lebanon. He stressed that a violation in any theater would be considered a violation of the ceasefire as a whole and warned that the United States and Israel would bear responsibility for the consequences of any breach.
