WANA (May 23) – During a phone conversation between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the two sides discussed the latest regional developments and the ongoing diplomatic process between Iran and the United States mediated by Pakistan.

The call took place on Friday night and focused on regional and international developments, particularly the situation in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

Araghchi outlined the latest developments in the diplomatic efforts aimed at ending what he described as the imposed war against the Islamic Republic of Iran. He said repeated breaches of commitments by the United States — including what he called repeated betrayals of diplomacy, military aggression against Iran, contradictory positions, and excessive demands — have disrupted the mediation process led by Pakistan.

The Iranian foreign minister stressed that despite Tehran’s deep mistrust of Washington, Iran has entered the diplomatic process with a responsible approach and is seriously pursuing a reasonable and fair outcome.

The two officials also discussed issues related to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference currently being held in New York.

Guterres, for his part, rejected the use of force against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries and emphasized the importance of adhering to the principles of the United Nations Charter and pursuing diplomatic solutions to establish peace and stability in the region.
