WANA (Jun 15) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran is approaching ongoing negotiations and the implementation of any future understandings with caution, citing the other side’s history of failing to honor commitments and agreements.

 

Araghchi stated that Iran continues to take into account past experiences, including unfulfilled commitments and the abandonment of previous agreements, when shaping its negotiating strategy. He noted that both the negotiation process and the implementation of any resulting understandings are being planned on the basis of this experience and a lack of trust.

 

At the same time, the foreign minister emphasized that Iran is seeking to use diplomacy as a means of creating economic opportunities and easing economic challenges facing the country.

 

“In foreign policy, we do not miss any opportunity,” Araghchi said. “At the same time, we do not place our hopes in any single opportunity.”

 

The Iranian foreign minister also announced that the next round of talks between Iran and the United States is scheduled to take place in Switzerland on Friday. He said the exact venue has not yet been finalized.

 

According to Araghchi, the heads of the two delegations are expected to first sign a memorandum of understanding before holding the first round of follow-up negotiations under the new framework.
