WANA (Sep 28) – Iran’s Foreign Minister said that the UN Security Council sanctions lifted against Iran cannot be reimposed, and any attempt to do so is null and void.

In a post on the social media platform X, Seyed Abbas Araghchi wrote: “In my speech yesterday before the UN Security Council, I explained how the United States betrayed diplomacy and how the three European countries buried it.”

He added: “Everything that took place in New York shows that the collapse of negotiations was not accidental.”

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran stressed: “The rejection of diplomacy by the U.S. and the three European countries was a deliberate move, based on this miscalculation: ‘Might makes right, and the Iranian people will eventually yield under pressure.’ Insisting on such false assumptions will not resolve the current unnecessary crisis.”

He further noted: “In my remarks yesterday, I emphasized that the three European countries failed to uphold their commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and UN Security Council Resolution 2231, and therefore they have no grounds for their current claims.”

Araghchi stated that their reference to the so-called ‘snapback mechanism’ is nothing but a blatant abuse of legal procedures, and pointed out that UN Security Council Resolution 2231 will expire on October 18, 2025.

In conclusion, he reiterated: “The sanctions that have been lifted cannot be reinstated, and any attempt to do so is null and void.”
