Araghchi Meets E3 Foreign Ministers and EU Chief in New York
WANA (Sep 23) – A new round of consultations between Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and the foreign ministers of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, along with Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, began a short while ago on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
In this joint meeting, Ms. Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, was also present. The discussions reviewed the course of talks held over the past month to find diplomatic solutions regarding Iran’s nuclear issue and to prevent further escalation of tensions.
Iran’s Foreign Minister, while outlining Iran’s principled positions and practical steps taken in recent months to remove any doubt or pretext concerning Iran’s nuclear program, described the illegal and criminal attacks against Iran and the damage to nuclear facilities as a dark and dangerous point in the history of the non-proliferation regime. Referring to Iran’s latest responsible step in concluding an arrangement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to fulfill Iran’s safeguards obligations under the new circumstances, he stressed the necessity of reciprocal and responsible action by the European parties in this regard.
In this meeting, given the unjustified and unlawful step of initiating the process to reinstate the previously lifted UN Security Council sanctions, some ideas and proposals for continuing diplomacy were put forward, and it was agreed that consultations with all parties involved would continue.
