WANA (Jun 28) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi continued his official visit to Baghdad on Sunday by holding separate meetings with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi and President Nizar Amidi.

 

During the meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi, Araghchi conveyed congratulations from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the formation of Iraq’s new government and reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to strengthening relations with Baghdad across all sectors.

 

He said expanding cooperation in the political, economic, security, trade, cultural, and people-to-people fields would serve the shared interests of both nations and contribute to regional stability and security.

 

Araghchi also briefed the Iraqi prime minister on the latest diplomatic efforts to end what he described as the U.S.-Israeli-imposed war against Iran.

 

He stressed the importance of all regional countries safeguarding peace and security, particularly by preventing aggressor states from using their territory or facilities to launch unlawful attacks against Iran.

 

The Iranian foreign minister further emphasized the importance of maintaining close coordination and cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad and expanding bilateral relations in all areas of mutual interest.

 

For his part, Prime Minister Al-Zaidi highlighted the deep friendship between Iraq and Iran and said Iraq’s new government is determined to expand relations with the Islamic Republic in all fields.

 

Both sides also stressed the importance of continuing political consultations, strengthening bilateral coordination, expanding cooperation to serve their shared interests, preserving regional peace and stability, and combating terrorism.

 

Earlier in the day, Araghchi arrived in Baghdad at the head of a diplomatic delegation for talks with senior Iraqi officials. His first meeting was with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein at the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.

 

The visit follows the formation of Iraq’s new government. In a recent post on X, Araghchi congratulated Prime Minister Al-Zaidi on taking office and Fuad Hussein on retaining his position as foreign minister, adding that expanding the brotherly and friendly relations between Iran and Iraq would remain among Tehran’s top foreign policy priorities.
