Araghchi Meets with Lebanese Parliament Speaker
WANA (Jun 03) – Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, met and held talks with Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Tuesday as part of his continued meetings with high-ranking Lebanese officials.
The Iranian Foreign Minister conveyed warm greetings from the senior leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Mr. Nabih Berri, Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, and praised his unique role and prudent efforts in fostering political understanding among the Lebanese during the process of electing a president and forming a government.
Araghchi also referred to his meetings and discussions earlier in the day with senior Lebanese officials, reaffirming the Iranian government’s determination to enter a new phase of friendly relations with Lebanon and to strengthen bilateral ties across political and economic domains.
Speaker Nabih Berri, in turn, extended his greetings to Iran’s high-ranking officials and noted Israel’s repeated and blatant violations of the ceasefire agreement, despite Lebanon’s full commitment to it over the past eight months. He emphasized that the liberation of occupied Lebanese territories and reconstruction efforts remain two of the country’s most pressing priorities.
Earlier, Araghchi had also held separate meetings with Lebanon’s Foreign Minister, Youssef Raja, and President Joseph Aoun.
Speaking upon his arrival in Beirut, Araghchi — who had visited Cairo on Monday as part of a regional tour — emphasized Iran’s commitment to strengthening ties with Lebanon based on mutual interest and respect.
He described Lebanon’s “independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity” as crucial not only for Iran but for the entire region. Araghchi further stated that condemning the Israeli occupation is, in essence, a gesture of solidarity with a friendly nation — not an act of interference. “No country in the region,” he added, “has the right to meddle in the internal affairs of another.”
