Araghchi: No Access Granted to Sensitive Nuclear Sites in Recent Inspections
WANA (Oct 28) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told lawmakers that recent inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Iran did not include access to any facilities targeted during the recent conflict, according to a briefing shared by the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission spokesperson.
Ebrahim Rezaei, the commission’s spokesperson, said the inspections were limited to two sites — the Bushehr nuclear power plant, where fuel replacement was carried out, and the Tehran Research Reactor, which produces radiopharmaceuticals for over one million patients. “Both visits were approved by the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran and authorized by the Supreme National Security Council,” he added, emphasizing that “no other permits for access to nuclear facilities have been issued.”
Araghchi also stated that Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA is conducted strictly “within the framework of the law passed by parliament,” under which any inspection requests must be referred to the Supreme National Security Council and its nuclear subcommittee.

Beyond nuclear oversight, the foreign minister outlined the government’s priorities in economic diplomacy, including efforts to deepen regional trade ties and activate “provincial diplomacy” to leverage local capacities in cross-border cooperation. Araghchi confirmed that Iran is pursuing the neutralization of sanctions alongside efforts to remove them under the supervision of the Supreme National Security Council.
He further announced the development of a National Water Diplomacy Strategy and the deployment of commercial attachés in 16 countries, reflecting a broader pivot toward economically driven foreign policy.
Addressing questions about the future of the 2015 nuclear agreement, Araghchi said Resolution 2231 “has expired, but the JCPOA itself remains in effect,” noting that Iran has suspended its commitments since 2020 but has not withdrawn, since “some provisions of the deal serve Iran’s national interests.”
