Araghchi Outlines Details of Visits to Pakistan, Oman, and Russia
WANA (Apr 27) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, upon his arrival in St. Petersburg on Monday, detailed his recent diplomatic consultations in Islamabad and Muscat while explaining the objectives of his current visit to Russia.
Consultations in Russia
Araghchi noted that Iran and Russia have maintained a history of close consultations regarding regional and bilateral issues. He explained that a gap in face-to-face meetings had occurred due to the “imposed Ramadan war,” and he is using this opportunity to review the latest developments and current status of the conflict with Russian officials to ensure necessary coordination.
Araghchi stated: “It is an appropriate opportunity to consult with our Russian friends regarding developments related to the war during this period and the current situation, and to review the latest status; it will be important that necessary coordinations are also made in this regard.”
Mediation and Negotiations in Pakistan
The Foreign Minister described his visit to Pakistan as a bilateral mission focused heavily on the country’s role as a mediator between Iran and the United States. Araghchi stated that because Pakistan has recently been undertaking the important task of mediating these negotiations, it was necessary to discuss the latest situation.
He attributed the failure of previous negotiation rounds to incorrect approaches and excessive demands by the U.S. side. During the visit, officials reviewed past events and discussed the specific conditions under which negotiations could potentially continue.
Araghchi highlighted that 40 days of “heroic resistance” by the Iranian people should serve as the basis for securing Iran’s rights and national interests.
Maritime Security and Ties with Oman
Regarding his stop in Muscat, Araghchi characterized Oman as a close friend with “very good positions” during the war. He emphasized that as the two coastal states of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran and Oman, must consult to ensure the safe passage of the strait, which he described as a vital global issue.
The Foreign Minister stressed the need for coordination on any movements in the region, as the interests of both nations are directly involved.
He reported a high level of consensus with Omani officials and noted that agreements were reached to continue consultations at the expert level to resolve existing problems and expand relations with neighbors in the southern Persian Gulf.
Araghchi concluded: “Thank God, there is much commonality of opinion between us and Oman, and agreements have also been reached for consultations to continue at expert levels.”
