WANA (Aug 31) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated on Monday that Iran’s primary focus at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek is to uphold the rights of the Iranian people following recent regional conflict and fighting.

 

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Monday, August 31, leading a high-level delegation that includes Foreign Minister Araghchi, to participate in the 26th Summit of the SCO Council of Heads of State.

 

Speaking to reporters prior to departure, Araghchi detailed the core objectives of Iran’s participation: “Naturally, our immediate objective is to secure and defend the rights of our people in relation to the recent war and conflicts.”

 

“The region is undergoing severe turbulence,” the top Iranian diplomat added. “It is essential that SCO member states are fully informed of these developments, adopt principled stances, and formulate a unified position to counter these challenges.”

 

The two-day summit, taking place August 31–September 1 under the theme “25 Years of the SCO: Together for Sustainable Peace, Development, and Prosperity,” brings together leaders from across Eurasia.

 

Established in 2001, the SCO currently comprises 10 full member states: Iran, China, Russia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus.
