Araghchi: Preparations for the Trip to New York are Underway
WANA (Sep 12) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said preparations are underway for his trip to New York to attend the UN General Assembly, stressing that U.S. restrictions on the Iranian delegation’s movement are of little significance.
“Our planning for the trip to New York is ongoing, and those restrictions do not matter much,” Araghchi said in an interview. “We are going there only to attend the United Nations, to hold talks within the UN framework, and to deliver speeches. We have no other business there, so it makes no difference if they say ‘go to this street, don’t go to that street.’”
He added, “It does not matter to us at all. We are going there for a mission, and God willing, we will carry out this mission. The trip is planned, and unless unexpected problems arise—such as visa issues—it will definitely take place.”
Earlier, on September 7, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei addressed reports of possible U.S. restrictions on the Iranian delegation during its visit to New York.
“Legally, they cannot do this, but unfortunately, they do, in violation of international law and particularly the UN Headquarters Agreement, which defines the obligations of the host country,” he said.
Baghaei added that, as in previous years, Iran plans to use the opportunity to present its positions at the international level. He noted that the Iranian President is scheduled to attend this year’s General Assembly session, which also marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, with further details to be announced by the President’s office.
