Araghchi Reacts To Nobel Peace Prize Winner’s Praise For Israeli Officials
WANA (Nov 04) – Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, has criticized the Nobel Peace Prize Committee after this year’s laureate praised Israeli leaders, calling the move another sign of the prize’s “loss of credibility” and “politicization.”
In a post on X, Araghchi wrote: “For many people around the world, the Nobel Prize has long lost the credibility it was supposed to have. The reason for this collapse is that the prize has often been used as a tool to attack non-Western governments that are deemed ‘enemies’ of Western interests.”
He added: “Awarding this year’s so-called ‘Peace’ Prize to someone who in fact incites ‘war’ against her own country while praising those responsible for genocide and war crimes in Palestine only reinforces this perception more than ever.”
Earlier, María Corina Machado, this year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner, had announced a phone conversation with the Israeli Prime Minister, during which she labeled Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis as “terrorists” and expressed support for Israel’s military actions in Gaza. She has also publicly endorsed former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed plans for military intervention in her own country.
Araghchi’s response comes amid a wave of criticism against the Nobel Committee, with many observers arguing that awarding a self-proclaimed advocate of war marks yet another departure of the Nobel Peace Prize from its founding ideals.
