WANA (Dec 12) – Iran’s Foreign Minister stated that Tehran welcomes the opening of a “new chapter” in relations with Lebanon, while expressing surprise at his Lebanese counterpart’s decision not to accept Iran’s reciprocal invitation.

In a post on X, Seyed Abbas Araghchi wrote: “I appreciate Mr. Youssef Raji’s kind invitation. However, his decision not to respond to Iran’s reciprocal invitation—extended in return for the warm hospitality he offered during my recent visit to Lebanon—is surprising.”

He added: “It is clear that foreign ministers of two countries with brotherly ties and full diplomatic relations do not require any special venue or unusual framework to meet. Tehran, as previously emphasized, seeks a fresh and constructive chapter in its cooperation with Lebanon.”

Araghchi underscored that the relationship between Tehran and Beirut is built on “mutual respect” and “shared interests,” and stressed that Iran intends to continue along this path.
