WANA (Sep 01) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, after attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, emphasized the global shift toward a new order, saying the future of the world lies in multipolarity and multilateral cooperation.

 

In a message posted on X following his participation in the SCO summit alongside Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Abbas Araghchi wrote: “I am pleased to have attended the SCO summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, alongside President Dr. Pezeshkian.”

 

He added that during meetings and talks with senior officials from Eurasian, Chinese and South Asian countries, Iran stressed its principled commitment to defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the need for cooperation in managing global developments.

 

Araghchi further stated: “More than ever before, the future is multipolar and multilateral.”

Speaking after the conclusion of the trip, Iran’s foreign minister said discussions at the SCO and “SCO Plus” meetings focused on ways to counter unilateralism and strengthen cooperation among non-Western countries.

 

He said the participating leaders presented their views on the need to develop independent economic, political and energy pathways, while reducing reliance on structures and institutions shaped by Western powers.

 

Araghchi noted that President Pezeshkian’s speeches at both the SCO summit and the SCO Plus meeting outlined Iran’s views on confronting unilateralism, regional developments, the importance of diplomacy and resolving disputes through dialogue.

 

He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran supports addressing international issues through diplomatic means, while maintaining that it will defend its security and interests in the face of pressure and attacks.

 

The Iranian foreign minister also said that regional developments, including the situations in Gaza and Lebanon, were among the issues discussed during the talks held on the sidelines of the summit.
