Araghchi: “The Illusion of Greater Israel” Is a Threat to Global Peace
WANA (Aug 24) – Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, warned that the so-called “Greater Israel” project poses an existential danger to the region and the world. He described the upcoming meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers in Jeddah as “a rare opportunity and a historic test,” stressing that the time for statements and expressions of concern has passed.
The Jeddah Meeting and the Need for Decisive Action
In an op-ed for Asharq Al-Awsat, Araghchi wrote that the extraordinary OIC ministerial session “must not be limited to declarations of solidarity or expressions of regret, but should mark a turning point for building a regional and global coalition to halt Israel’s aggression.” He cautioned that Israel’s ambitions could lead to violations of national sovereignty across multiple countries, from Syria and Lebanon to Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
Humanitarian Catastrophe in Gaza
The Iranian Foreign Minister described the ongoing events in Gaza as “systematic genocide,” stating: “Ninety percent of Gaza has become uninhabitable, and on average 38 Palestinian children are killed every day.” According to him, Israel has used starvation and forced displacement as instruments of war, turning the situation into one of the worst humanitarian disasters of the modern era.

Greater Israel: An Expansionist Project
Pointing to settlement expansion in the West Bank, attacks on Lebanon and Syria, and pressure on Yemen, Araghchi stressed that these actions are part of the “Greater Israel from the Nile to the Euphrates” project. He added: “These policies are not merely a regional threat, but a danger to international peace and security.”
The End of Mere Declarations
Araghchi underlined: “The time for slogans, statements, condemnations, and expressions of concern is over.” He called for extensive political and diplomatic pressure, prosecution of Israeli leaders in international courts, and the establishment of a secure humanitarian corridor to deliver urgent aid to Gaza. Addressing Islamic countries, Araghchi concluded: “History will judge us today. We must show that the Islamic Ummah is capable, in critical moments, of defending the oppressed and curbing Israel’s ambitions.”
