Araghchi: The Non-Aligned Movement Supports Iran’s Position on the Snapback Issue
WANA (Oct 16) – Iran’s Foreign Minister announced that the final communiqué of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) ministerial meeting includes the movement’s explicit support for Iran’s position regarding the snapback mechanism at the UN Security Council.
Speaking on the sidelines of the NAM Foreign Ministers’ Conference held on Wednesday in Kampala, Uganda’s capital, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, said that several key proposals put forward by Iran had been incorporated into the summit’s final document.
Araghchi explained that “the Non-Aligned Movement addresses all global issues in the fields of economic, social, and political development, and the final document of the foreign ministers’ meeting consists of over 1,500 clauses.”
According to him, “at Iran’s request, new clauses condemning in the strongest terms the attacks carried out by the Zionist regime and the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran were added to the document.” These sections describe the attacks as “unacceptable and condemnable,” reaffirming the solidarity of NAM member states with Iran.
The minister also announced the inclusion of a separate clause condemning the attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, as well as the terrorist operation in Lebanon conducted through the use of mass communication tools.
In another part of his remarks to IRIB News, Araghchi referred to a significant paragraph in the final communiqué, stating: “The Non-Aligned Movement expressed its support for the position of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the snapback issue at the UN Security Council, emphasizing that Resolution 2231 remains valid and that its provisions and timelines must be fully observed.”
He added: “Under Paragraph 8 of this resolution, it is stipulated that the resolution should terminate on October 18 (26 Mehr) as scheduled. This stance essentially reaffirms the position of Iran, Russia, China, and several other countries in opposition to the claims made by the United States and European countries regarding the reactivation of the snapback mechanism.”
Araghchi concluded by stressing: “The support of more than 100 member states of the Non-Aligned Movement for the positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran represents a major diplomatic achievement for our country.”
