WANA (May 26) – Following the summoning of the French chargé d’affaires in Tehran in protest at offensive remarks made by the French Foreign Minister, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi issued a strongly worded message on X (formerly Twitter), denouncing France’s double standards on human rights and stated: You “Have No Moral Authority to Lecture Iran.”

“There have been many transgressions making a mockery of France’s ‘human rights activism’. But perhaps nothing has made the hypocrisy as stark as the French approach to the Israeli regime and its war crimes,” Araghchi wrote.

Spare us Iranians the lectures. You have no moral authority whatsoever,” he added.

Araghchi also posted an image of French President Emmanuel Macron, referencing Macron’s recent statement dismissing the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — a position that has drawn sharp criticism from international human rights groups.

Coinciding with the awarding of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival to an Iranian filmmaker, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot repeated some of the West’s human rights allegations against the Islamic Republic of Iran in a post on the social media platform X. This move met with Iran’s response, as the country summoned the French chargé d’affaires in protest on May 25, 2025.
