WANA (Oct 07) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi responded to Donald Trump’s recent remarks about Iran’s nuclear program, emphasizing that while “buildings and machinery can be destroyed,” Iran’s will “will never be damaged.” He warned that further insistence on miscalculation “will solve nothing,” stressing that “there is no alternative to a negotiated solution.”

Speaking on Tuesday night, October 7, Araghchi addressed Trump’s comments, saying that “doubling down on a wrong calculation will not fix any problem.”

“When I left for the fifth round of negotiations with Mr. Wittkoff on May 23,” Araghchi recalled, “I wrote: Nuclear weapons zero = agreement possible. Enrichment zero = no agreement possible.”

He added, “If the U.S. President looks at the minutes of those meetings—documented by the negotiation mediator—he will see how close we came to celebrating a new and historic nuclear deal.”

Araghchi noted that the U.S. President should remember the Iraq war experience: “There was never any intelligence suggesting Iraq was hiding weapons of mass destruction. The only outcomes were unimaginable destruction, thousands of dead Americans, and seven trillion dollars wasted from taxpayers’ money.”

He continued, “Likewise, there is no ‘intelligence’ indicating that Iran was only ‘a month away’ from developing a nuclear weapon—unless Israel had deceived the U.S. into attacking the Iranian people. After that failed operation, Israel is now trying to create an imaginary threat around Iran’s defensive capabilities. Americans are tired of fighting Israel’s endless wars.”

The Iranian Foreign Minister stressed: “Iran is a great country, and Iranians are a great nation—the heirs of an ancient civilization. Buildings and machinery can be destroyed, but our will can never be broken. Persisting in this strategic miscalculation will solve nothing. There is no path forward except reaching a negotiated solution.”

Recently, Donald Trump claimed that his administration had “destroyed Iran’s nuclear program,” warning that if Iran resumes it, “we will confront them again.”

Responding to a question from reporters about such remarks by U.S. officials, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said that boasting about committing a criminal act “only increases the international responsibility of the U.S. government.”

“Admitting and even celebrating an illegal and criminal action brings no legitimacy to the United States,” Baghaei explained. “It merely confirms to the international community and the Iranian nation that the U.S. remains a law-breaking actor, uncommitted to international norms.”

He added, “Repeating the claim that they ‘set back Iran’s nuclear program’ does not change the reality that Iran’s program is peaceful. The actions of the U.S. and Israel were criminal and illegal under all established principles of international law.”
