WANA (May 12) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi is set to travel to New Delhi to participate in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

The top Iranian diplomat will attend the gathering scheduled for Thursday and Friday, May 14 and 15. Chaired by India, the meeting will focus on regional stability, multilateral cooperation, and economic resilience.

During his visit, Araghchi is expected to hold bilateral talks with his Indian counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, as well as other participating ministers and high-ranking officials.

India assumed the BRICS presidency on January 1, 2026, succeeding Brazil, which hosted the 17th BRICS Summit in 2025.

This ministerial session in New Delhi serves as a precursor to the 18th BRICS Summit, slated to take place this September in the Indian capital.

Originally founded by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, the economic bloc has since expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates, currently bringing its total membership to ten nations.

The visit was previously announced by Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei. Highlighting the significance of the meeting, Baghaei noted that both Iran and India are members of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), stating that “the level of cooperation and coordination between the two countries within these organizations is satisfactory.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry also recently confirmed in a statement that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will be in attendance.

Minister Araghchi’s trip to New Delhi follows a series of recent high-level diplomatic visits to Pakistan, Oman, Russia, and China over the past few weeks.
