WANA (Aug 31) – Following the first day of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Kyrgyzstan, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated that all high-level talks had been strictly business-like, focusing primarily on economic cooperation while setting aside routine formalities.

 

Addressing the recent escalation with Washington, Araghchi noted that the issue of aggressive U.S. attacks and their consequences was raised throughout his engagements. He emphasized that the Iranian nation would continue to stand firm in defending its rights.

 

The foreign minister highlighted that a recurring topic in all bilateral meetings was the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which had been signed by the presidents of both nations.

 

Araghchi stated that the United States had breached the accord, stressing that Washington must return to its commitments and abide by the terms of the agreement.

 

He explained that honoring the original agreement signed by the U.S. president was the only clear path toward resolving the crisis and satisfying the international community’s shared goal of ending the war as quickly as possible.
