Araghchi: U.S. Policies Have Blocked Any Path to Negotiations
WANA (Nov 30) – Iran’s foreign minister stated that “because of the policies pursued by the United States, negotiations are currently impossible.” This was the central point of his remarks on the sidelines of his meeting with Turkey’s foreign minister, where Araghchi explicitly stressed that Washington’s “excessive demands and coercive approach” have effectively eliminated the space for dialogue.
He explained that Tehran remains prepared for “honorable negotiations based on equality,” but the current circumstances—particularly U.S. behavior regarding the nuclear file and regional issues—have made such talks unattainable. “It is the United States that, through its policies, has eliminated any possibility of negotiation,” he said. “We are ready for a fair and balanced solution, but not under pressure.”
Responding to a question about the outcome of his recent trip to Paris, Araghchi reiterated the same position, noting that the nuclear issue was one of the main topics in discussions with French officials. However, “as long as Washington chooses a confrontational path, negotiations simply cannot begin.”
He emphasized that the distinction between “dialogue” and “negotiation” must remain clear: “We exchange views with various countries, but negotiations only make sense when both sides have a genuine and equal will to resolve a specific issue.” According to him, such willingness is not evident on the American side.
The Iranian foreign minister concluded: “As soon as we are convinced that negotiations can safeguard the rights of the Iranian people, we will not hesitate. But as long as the other side enters with an imposing approach, negotiations are simply impossible.”
