WANA (Sep 08) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a phone call with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi on Tuesday to discuss bilateral relations as well as the latest regional and international developments.

During the call, Araghchi held the United States responsible for the current escalation of tensions in the region, citing Washington’s violation of its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum. He said the path toward restoring normal conditions was clear.

Araghchi said that the United States’ return to its commitments and adherence to the terms it signed under the Islamabad Memorandum could pave the way for de-escalation and a return to normal conditions.

The Iranian foreign minister also briefed his Japanese counterpart on the latest status of talks between Iran and Oman over the Strait of Hormuz, saying the two countries had made significant progress toward establishing a temporary transit route through the strategic waterway.

Araghchi also stressed the need for continued consultations between Iran and Oman to reach an agreement on mechanisms for the future management of the Strait of Hormuz.
